The New York subway system turns 100 years young today.

It'd be hella easy to insert a horrible story of the subway, or make fun of rush hour and all its frequent inhumanity, but the simple truth is that the common experience of riding together on the subway is probably one of the most humanizing forces of this city. You don't know what you have until you're in another city for awhile...it's wonderful.
